Cream together 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, and 1 egg in a mixing bowl until the mixture is lemon colored.

Stir in 1/2 cup milk.

In a separate bowl, sift together 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until just combined.
