Yield: 30 hush puppies.

[edit] Ingredients

2 ½

cups cornmeal

1 ½

cups flour

1

tablespoon sugar

1

teaspoon baking soda

teaspoon red pepper

2

teaspoons. baking powder

¼

teaspoon garlic powder

2

tablespoons chopped green onions

1 ¾

cups milk

1

egg, beaten

2

teaspoons chopped parsley

Canola oil for deep frying

Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add onion, milk, water, eggs and parsley and blend well.

Step 2

Refrigerate until ready to use.

Step 3

Heat oil. Spoon batter into oil, frying until golden brown.

A popular dish in the Southern part of the United States, the name supposedly comes from people giving these to dogs as a treat to get them to be quiet, while saying "Hush Puppy!"
