Instructions
Step 1
If using oil and frying: In a frying pan, fry the chopped onion and garlic (if desired) in oil until translucent. Add the pepper or tomato paste, stir through, and cook for another minute.
Step 2
Combine and Cook: Transfer the mixture from step 1 (or uncooked ingredients if following the no-fry method) to a cooking pot with the pre-cooked or canned white beans. Add 1-2 glasses of water, salt, and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning if needed. Add enough water to cover the beans by approximately 2 centimeters. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 40 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Step 3
Alternative No-Fry Method: If you prefer not to use oil or fry, combine the uncooked chopped onion, garlic (if desired), pre-cooked or canned white beans, pepper or tomato paste, water, salt, and pepper directly in a pot and cook together until thick, following the cooking duration mentioned in step 2.
Step 4
Optional Chili Addition: In a separate pan, fry onions (if desired for the chili) then add the minced green sweet chilies and cook for another 3 minutes. Stir this into the bean mixture, then add sweet paprika and chili flakes.
Step 5
Optional Sausage Addition: Cook Turkish Sucuk (or any spicy sausage) with onions until browned. Add this to the bean mixture.
Step 6
Optional Meat Addition: Using meat stock, fry 150 grams of cubed beef or lamb with onions until browned. Add this to the bean mixture.
Step 7
Optional Vegetable Addition: Fry onions and garlic (if desired). Add 1 cup grated carrots and fry. Then add a couple of chopped tomatoes and fry for a couple more minutes. Stir this vegetable mixture into the beans.
Step 8
Optional Cheese Addition: Just before serving, stir in crumbled feta cheese and sliced black olives.
