Ingredients
- 0.5 litres milk
- 50 gram yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 dl sugar
- 2 teaspoons cardamon (not the pods, but open them and use the bits inside)
- 1 egg
- 14 dl wheat flour
- 100 gram butter
Instructions
Step 1
Add yeast to hand-warm milk.
Step 2
Mix the yeast mixture with salt, sugar, cardamon, and egg.
Step 3
Gradually add flour, whisking vigorously at first to incorporate air into the dough.
Step 4
Knead the dough until it feels 'alive' in your hands.
Step 5
Add soft butter towards the end of the kneading process.
Step 6
Let the dough rest in a warm place, covered with a tea towel.
Step 7
Once the dough has doubled in size, knead it softly for a couple of minutes to remove air bubbles.
Step 8
Mold the dough into desired shapes (e.g., plaited loaves, boy/girl shapes, cinnamon buns, or simple balls). Brush with egg and optionally sprinkle with sugar before baking at 225 degrees Celsius for approximately 10 minutes. Note that loaves will require a longer baking time.
