Grand Marnier French Toast

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 cups milk
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
Zest from 2 oranges
Nutmeg

Preparation

1
In a large mixing bowl whisk together the eggs, egg whites, sugar and salt. Add the milk, Grand Marnier and orange zest. Whisk again.
2
Slice the bread into 1 inch slices and dip in the mixture until the bread is saturated, approximately 1 minute. Arrange on a baking sheet and set aside for 1 hour. If time permits, prepare the night before and refrigerate overnight.
3
In a large, lightly oiled skillet or griddle, slowly brown both sides of the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove to a clean cookie sheet and sprinkle lightly with nutmeg.
4
When all the slices are browned, place in a 425 degree F oven and bake for 20 minutes.
5
Arrange on a warm platter and sprinkle generously with powdered sugar and nutmeg.
6
Serve immediately with pure maple syrup.
