Sweet Onion Pie

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
1/2 cup lard
2 tablespoons cold water
3 cups onions, sliced 1/8 inch thick
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sour cream
3 tablespoons flour

Preparation

Dough: Combine flour, salt and caraway seeds

Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs

Add water to make a soft dough

Roll on floured surface, to fit a 10 inch pie-plate

Bake crust for 12 minutes at 450 degrees.

Saute onions in butter until caramelized

Place onions into bottom of pie shell.

Beat eggs in a small bowl

Add milk and 1 1/4 cup of the sour cream (reserving 1/4 cup) and salt

Blend flour with 1/4 cup sour cream in a separate dish

Mix sour cream and flour mixture into egg mixture

Pour over eggs in pie crust

Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.
