Ingredients

  • 8 oz shell pasta
  • 1/2 lb sliced provolone
  • 1 lb can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms
  • 1 14 oz jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef or turkey
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1/2 lb sliced mozzarella

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large pan, cook the ground meat in a little oil, stirring often. Drain any fat.

Add the chopped onions, crushed garlic, spaghetti sauce, stewed tomatoes, and undrained sliced mushrooms to the pan. Mix well.

20 minutes

Simmer the sauce mixture for 20 minutes, or until the onions are soft.

Cook the shell pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water.

Pour half of the cooked pasta into a deep casserole dish.

Cover the pasta with half of the meat sauce mixture. Top with sliced provolone.

Repeat the layers: add the remaining pasta, then the remaining meat sauce mixture. Top with sliced mozzarella.

35-40 minutes

Cover the casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes.

Remove the cover and continue baking until the mozzarella melts and browns slightly, about 5 more minutes.
