- 6 slices Bacon, cut into pieces
- 2 pounds Fresh green beans

Snap the ends off the green beans and break them into desired lengths. Place the green beans in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to maintain a steady simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 1 hour.

30 minutes
After the initial cooking, add the bacon and salt to taste. Continue to cook for about 30 minutes more or until the beans are tender.

If desired, the green beans can be canned after cooking for one hour (as per step 1). In this case, do not add the bacon, but do add the salt. Process according to proper canning directions.
