- 1 firm-ripe pear

Rinse and dry the pear, then place it in a widemouth decorative glass jar (at least 1 quart). Pour brandy over the pear, ensuring it is completely covered. Seal the jar airtight. If the seal is rubber or synthetic rubber, cover the glass top with plastic wrap to protect the seal from alcohol, which can soften it. Store at room temperature.
