Gourmande in the Kitchen
A cool glass of honey ginger lemonade seems just right on one of those lovely, long, lazy days outside. It starts with simple syrup made from equal parts water and honey, heated briefly to dissolve. Into that goes the “zing,” a few ounces of grated ginger, and it’s left to infuse.

Big Red Kitchen
Since I enjoy a little bling in my life, I created this drink to look like Lady Di's/Kate's engagement ring. So while little Dae and I curl up on the couch to watch the Wedding of the Century we will sip these bubbly drinks- the grape juice version, eat some tea sandwiches, along with scones with cream and jam. And don't forget the tea!

The Comfort of Cooking

Perry's Plate
I got the idea for these from a little kids cookbook that was given to me by a friend. The photo in the recipe was just as vividly colored as our smoothies, but the recipe called for a lot of yogurt and milk. I tried them out and ended up with very pale smoothies. Like melted ice cream. Not so pretty.

Although I made a Boozy Ginger Beer when I was in Ghana, I've been wanting to try a non-alcoholic version. This is pretty darn close to perfect- just enough brown sugar sweetness, some fruity tartness from the lime, and a whole lot of ginger kick.
