For the past few weeks I've been working on a special cocktail recipe! Last month I was invited to participate in Kitchen Play's Progressive Party for May! In case you haven't been to one of the parties, it's a unique concept that brings together cooks, bloggers and foodies.

Opera rehearsals have been taking their toll lately, and I feel like I’ve barely seen Joel at all these past 3 weeks. However, I was lucky enough to have a couple of my rehearsals cancelled this weekend, so Joel and I made plans for a little celebration at home.

People kept asking for the recipe and I was embarrassed to tell them it actually wasn't from scratch and only had 2 ingredients. Work smart not hard, right?

As the warmer weather arrives, all the red wine and hot punch from the winter months becomes less desirable. The thought of warming my hands over a mug of mulled cider, as I so often did this winter, no longer seems appealing; with spring, thoughts of fresh herbs, flower blossoms, fizzes and flips take center stage!

Dessert is, quite obviously, my most favorite meal of all, much to my waistline’s dismay. Luckily, there are alternatives.

This is my all time favorite transition drink. After wasting all too many of my youthful years on cheap rum and coke.

A cool glass of honey ginger lemonade seems just right on one of those lovely, long, lazy days outside. It starts with simple syrup made from equal parts water and honey, heated briefly to dissolve. Into that goes the “zing,†a few ounces of grated ginger, and it’s left to infuse.

I like tart things, and I loved the way the ginger and lemon combined with the gin. I am sure it would be fine with vodka too.

Numerous bloggers have posted recipes and reasons as to why it is called Chicken 65, so I am not gonna ramble.

Since I enjoy a little bling in my life, I created this drink to look like Lady Di's/Kate's engagement ring. So while little Dae and I curl up on the couch to watch the Wedding of the Century we will sip these bubbly drinks- the grape juice version, eat some tea sandwiches, along with scones with cream and jam. And don't forget the tea!

There’s something about a mango that’s just so quintessentially summer. They’re bright and juicy, with a slightly bite to their sweetness.

Remembering my refreshing signature cocktail from last summer, I decided to make a cooling drink featuring my current favorite treat. I love herby notes in my cocktails and more tart drinks so these are perfect for me. These are delicious with and without the alcohol so feel free to enjoy them either way.

It’s no secret that I am a major beer enthusiast; a hophead, if you will. I’ve been thinking about learning how to brew for years, but condo living, time, and fear of the unknown kept me from taking the plunge. Well, tonight I opened up my first bottle of homebrewed Irish stout and had a drink.

One of my health resolutions for 2011 was to stay more hydrated. It’s really easy for me to get totally engrossed in work and completely forget to drink all day!

Yesterday was our last day in Austin, Texas, where it is hot hot HOT, so in saying goodbye to the sizzling weather I’ve dedicated this luscious limoncello recipe to my favorite Southern city. We have had an absolute blast enjoying good friends, music and food, and can’t wait to come back soon.

I got the idea for these from a little kids cookbook that was given to me by a friend. The photo in the recipe was just as vividly colored as our smoothies, but the recipe called for a lot of yogurt and milk. I tried them out and ended up with very pale smoothies. Like melted ice cream. Not so pretty.

Although I made a Boozy Ginger Beer when I was in Ghana, I've been wanting to try a non-alcoholic version. This is pretty darn close to perfect- just enough brown sugar sweetness, some fruity tartness from the lime, and a whole lot of ginger kick.

Rather than making my usual breakfast of coffee and a cigarette I made this awesome smoothie. I’m not going to claim that it made my aching muscles feel better but it did energize me enough to get my butt out of the house and go for a quick morning jog!

What better way to impress your guests by turning an ordinary gathering into an experience? In our spring eglossy I wanted to create an innovative and fun wine tasting party so we created a wine flight spread.

Forget beer and wine, I think nothing compliments an Indian meal better than lassi. It’s a cooling, yogurt-based drink with palate cleansing properties that balance out a spicy Indian meal perfectly. You really couldn’t get a more traditional drink.
