Laver Seaweed

About

Laver is an edible seaweed that has a high mineral salt content, particularly iodine and iron. It is used for making laverbread, a traditional Welsh dish.

In Japan it is known as Nori and is formed by the shredding and drying of laver before layering in a process much like paper making. Sheets of nori are mostly used as a wrap for sushi and rice balls (onigiri). It is also used to flavor soups. Sometimes it is made into a sauce to accompany lamb.
