Coffee Joulies Are Metal Beans That Keep Drinks Warm for Hours

Dave Petrillo and Dave Jackson, better known as Dave & Dave, have come up with a revolutionary product called Coffee Joulies. The metal beans cool hot beverages down to a drinkable temperature and then keep them warm for hours.

Dave & Dave's Kickstarter page for the Coffee Joulies project explains the beans' process in full. Essentially, the stainless steel Joulies are filled with a nontoxic material that melts at 140 degrees. When Coffee Joulies are placed inside a hot beverage, the material melts, absorbing energy and cooling the beverage down. When the beverage's temperature dips below 140 degrees, the material inside the beans solidifies, releasing the absorbed energy and heating the beverage back up.

Coffee Joulies can cool a steaming hot beverage down three times faster than normal; with the right vacuum thermos, Dave & Dave report that the beans can keep that beverage at an optimal drinking temperature for over five hours.

Dave & Dave have received an incredible amount of support from the Kickstarter community. The duo originally set a fundraising goal of $9,500; as of Thursday night, $250,863 was pledged from 4,102 backers. Check out the video they made to introduce the project below:
