Scuppernog Mango

About

The scuppernong, Vitis rotundifolia, is a variety of muscadine grape named for the Scuppernong River in North Carolina. The scuppernong has a thick skin and a sweet pulp, and is credited with being the first grape actively cultivated in the United States. In 2001, the North Carolina General Assembly named the scuppernong the official state fruit. Scuppernongs are famed for being used as an ingredient for wine. In the U.S. these can also be found growing in the Florida region as well. It is also popular as an ice cream ingredient.
