Xynomavro Grapes

About

The great red grape of Greece, where it can be found almost everywhere. Xynomavro (Xinomavro) is known for producing a wide variety of wines that range from big and tannic reds to pleasant rosés and sometimes even as the base for sparkling wines (blanc de noirs). Xynomavro ripens very late, while retaining high levels of tannins, acidity and potential alcohol. The reds can be hard in their youth, but they can age well in both barrel and bottle. Aromas and flavors of red fruits, earthen qualities, and tannins are common.
