The Monty's Surprise apple's properties and their effect on cancer cells, especially colon cancer, are being studied due to the interest of many scientists, including some at Cornell University and the UC Davis School of Medicine in the United States, in the linkage between apple compounds and the inhibition of cancer, particularly with flavonoids. May weigh as much as 400 grams and are crisp for eating fresh and excellent for cooking. Harvest time is generally in April.
