Physical Description

Large berries, a Northwest favorite. They are dark red with a slightly white to creamy pink flesh when ripe. Vibrant flavor and intensely super sweetness.

Selecting and Buying

Seasonality: july, august, september, opctober
Peak: june, july, august
Choosing: Look for bright red colors that are plump with juice, look out for any bruising or mold of any kind.
Buying: You can purchase ate your local grocery store or local farmers market.
Procuring: Strawberries may be grown in rows or mounds, the plants are generally set 18 inches apart, with the first runners positioned with 6 inches of spacing between them.

Preparation and Use

You can use in fruit salads, fruit compote, jams, sorbets, or have with whipped cream or dipped in assorted chocolates, sugars and sprinkles.

Cleaning: Rinse thoroughly with cool water prior to eating for 3 minutes.

Conserving and Storing

Store in air-tight container in cool temperature refrigerated for 2-3 days.

Social/Political

History: The Name Strawberry was derived from the berries that are "strewn" about on the plants, and "strewn berry" eventually became "Strawberry".
