Witch's Brew Halloween Punch

Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice
2 quarts cider
2 (6 oz.) cans orange juice concentrate
1 quart ginger ale
Special equipment:
1 large black plastic cauldron (available at party or craft stores)
1 punch bowl that fits inside the cauldron
1 block dry ice (available at supermarkets, ice cream shops or ice companies)

Preparation

Heat sugar, spice, and 1 cup cider just until sugar melts. Add remaining cider; mix well. Cool. Add cold ale just before serving.

To prepare the cauldron:

Wearing heavy duty gloves or using tongs, place the block of dry ice in the bottom of the cauldron. Note: Dry ice will burn your skin, so handle it with gloves and tongs and keep it away from kids!

If necessary, use an ice pick to break the block into smaller chunks.

Fill the cauldron with just enough water to cover the dry ice. It will begin to "fog."

Place the punch bowl inside the cauldron, on top of the dry ice.

Carefully pour the drink mixture into the punch bowl. Use a ladle to serve.
