Van Halen is currently on tour and Axl Rose's backstage demands are a bit peculiar. The rocker asks that his dressing room is packed with vodka, wine, beer and a square melon. Square melons are a very rare breed of fruit that are believed to have been grown to help retailers stack the fruit in their stores. So why does Axl Rose want square melons specifically?
Well, Van Halen is known for adding bizarre and very specific items to their tour riders just to make sure their staff are paying attention. The band once demanded bowls of M&Ms with all the brown ones removed. The band say they have nothing against brown M&Ms, but wanted to make sure their instructions were being read thoroughly, including their very complex stage requirements and the coinciding safety measures.
So, perhaps Axl Rose just wanted to make sure everyone was paying attention? That, or he really likes square melons.
