We started off meandering through the blueberry aisles. It was quiet, serene, and we were alone. I like the alone part. After about six minutes we all looked at each other with amazement in how intense the heat was getting. Swollen, sweaty, and determined are the words I am going to use here.

Somewhere around the fall of last year, I went on a Japanese cooking jag, inspired by and anticipating our upcoming trip to Japan. We were taking Japanese language courses and I was shopping at Nijiya, weekly. The Japantown neighborhood suddenly became familiar, where it hadn’t before. My mania for Japanese cooking reached somewhat of a turning point when I took a Japanese Kaiseki cooking workshop through the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California in December, and cooked up a multi-course Japanese holiday dinner.

To Form Individual Tarts Use a round cutter or a sharp knife to cut the dough into six 4½ -inch rounds. (You will need to gather and reroll the scraps to make the final 2 rounds.) Peel the rounds from the film and press them evenly into the pans. The baking time will be about the same.

Only three more days until Fritz gets to take his test and then it is SUMMER! Which is weird, because I’m already craving fall like nobody’s business. I want apple pie. I want cinnamon spice. I want pumpkin…anything. And knowing that the weather in Canada is going to be in the high 70s and 80s is just heaven. Bring on the sweaters for those chilly nights, baby.

Visiting my local farmers market has been my favorite weekly activity lately. I love sourcing for fresh seasonal produce and find baking and cooking inspirations from these trips. During one of my recent visits, I found a popcorn stall. Besides the usual suspects (butter popcorn, caramel popcorn, honey popcorn), their chocolate cinnamon popcorn had me intrigued.

Back to being miserably hot, we put a twist on an ice cream float-grandpa, it’s just as good as a root beer float we made back in the day but the adult version. After seeing it float (ha ha) around the food blogosphere for a little while, I finally made the lambic float that always caught my attention.

Sounds totally indulgent, doesn't it? Trust me, it's actually pretty healthy. (Just don't tell my kids.)

As a novice gardener, I was so proud to pick up some fresh French breakfast radishes today. I grew them from seeds a few months back, and these little beauties grow so well.

I created this recipe with every intention of making 4 individual pizzas that could be frozen for later small-project-that-turned-into-ginormous-time-suck emergencies. But who am I kidding. This pizza tastes waaaaay too good to not eat immediately for dinner and lunch the next day

As a result of my slight hangover and complete exhaustion, all I can think about when I try to write about this recipe is the bit from Austin Powers where Dr Evil demands 'a hundred billion dollars'. Which is hilarious but hardly earth-shattering.

It is a decided fact that you cannot take a good photo of beautiful, snow white mozzarella once it’s been tossed with balsamic vinegar. The good news is, this salad is DELICIOUS.

I'm sure you want to know a little about these pretzels before committing. yessum. These pretzels were a total experiment. I've never made pretzels before. I've eaten many pretzels {who hasn't}, just never made them. I did some research.

I wanted to revamp my 'raspberry cupcake' recipe, since the photos from the old version are so meh (though the recipe is not, I love those flavours). I also really wanted to try David Lebovitz's recipe for Devil's Food Cake after hearing Karen rave about it. I ended up making Devil's Food Cupcakes with Raspberry Buttercream. Insanely delicious.

I first became interested in chicken adobo when I saw a recipe for it using a slow cooker. It looked delicious but completely different than the adobo that I was familiar with. I thought adobo was that rich, spicy, reddish-brown mexican sauce that comes with chipotle peppers. The recipe I saw didn't even involve any chile peppers. So, I started doing some research. Turns out Filipino adobo is a completely different beast than Mexican or Spanish adobo. This adobo is a tangy, salty mix of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and spices that is used to marinate and stew meat.

Despite owning over a hundred cookbooks (I’m too afraid to count them now!), I don’t (yet) own any by Ottolenghi, even though quite a few people have emailed me about how wonderful his books and recipes are. The simple truth is, I don’t know much about Ottolenghi so I was very interested in trying out this recipe for dinner tonight.

Because the garden is pumping out greens, and every meal is an attempt to use them (that’s ours above, about to flower), I tossed in a bunch of pac choy and broccoli. Because I wanted something that would slide down easy, I added rice noodles. On the top was cilantro, also from the garden.

These lamb meatballs are amazing and so fragrant and delicious. Since I didn’t have all the ingredients for my salad, I wasn’t going to take pictures of the step by step instructions to make this. However, once I saw how gorgeous these meatballs turned out, I just couldn’t help it but take some pictures of them and post them here.

Pork hocks are from the shoulder part of the pig. It is parallel to pork shanks with crosses cuts. It is well known for its tenderness and rich flavor. It is also flavorful and is loaded with irresistible aroma. Since this piece generally consists of much skin, tendons and ligaments, it requires long cooking through stewing or braising to be made palatable.

I found this incredibly delicious looking recipe for cheese pinwheel rolls and decided I HAD to try them, my way of course. So next time you’re thinking of throwing some store bought garlic bread next to the spaghetti or lasagna, try these instead. Your taste buds will thank you.
