A Cinco de Mayo promotion involving a spray-painted donkey at Pink Taco in Los Angeles has inspired a boycott of the cheeky taco shop. The pink donkey, nicknamed "Pinky," is a Pink Taco regular on the promotional circuit; for this stunt, he was painted with the taco shop's name and forced to stand outside the restaurant in 85-degree heat.
The donkey was painted with nontoxic paint and had access to food and water, according to a police officer's investigation; however, Pink Taco was given a cease-and-desist order because it didn't have a permit for the live animal display.
Southern California residents were incensed by the spray-painted donkey at Pink Taco, airing their frustrations on Twitter and Facebook. A Facebook group called Boycott Pink Taco Century City popped up, where residents have shared their efforts to air the issue with local media and animal-control centers. OC Weekly and Gawker are reporting that Pink Taco has removed its social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook entirely.
