Introducing Geoduck Ice Cream

June 3, 2011

A geoduck is an really large mollusk with an extremely long lifespan (146 years!). In some parts of Asia, geoduck can sell for upwards of $168/ pound. Many consider the animal to be an aphrodisiac and it has turned into a prized ingredient for many dishes. Naturally, someone decided to make an ice cream from it.

Actually, two ice creams. This weekend, the town of Allyn, Washington will host the first Geoduck Festival and Olympic Mountain Ice Cream has created two varieties of geoduck-flavored ice cream for the occassion. One of them has a lemon base and has a lime flavor.

"It just kind of tastes like ground-up clams," Olympic Mountain Ice Cream's Bri Waite told Seattle Weekly. "Our owner really likes it."

If eating geoduck-flavored goodness isn't for you, the festival will also feature oyster-shucking, scavenger hunts, wood carvers, a beer garden, live music and a contest for the largest live geoduck.

Would you consider eating geoduck ice cream?
