Courtney West

Hi I’m Courtney! I'm an archaeologist, baker, and the lady behind the Sweet Miscellany blog and shop. I've always loved baking...and eating sweets. I'm pretty sure having a sweet tooth in my family is some sort of genetic disposition as we all love to indulge in dessert. As I grew older I became more aware of what I was putting into my body. My diet began shifting towards whole foods and away from anything processed. Not long after the shift, I began to wonder how I could fit "sweets" back into my life in a healthful way. I researched ingredients and became fast friends with whole grain flours, coconut oil, and alternative sweeteners.

Originally I began with the intention of creating healthier sweets made from whole foods and "better for you" ingredients. As my brother and sister both had to give up gluten, I began to see a need for more gluten free, wheat free, and vegan baked goods. My baking evolved (and is still evolving) to be able to provide a wide variety of baked goods and desserts to those that may not be able to enjoy conventional sweets. What I make is not necessarily "low calorie", but you can feel good about what your are putting in your body.

Sweet Miscellany has grown over the past couple of years from a blog into a growing online etsy shop and small business. I don't have a brick & mortar location yet, but you can find me on the blog, as well as on etsy and at the Historic Longview Farmer's Market every Saturday from March to November . Thanks for stopping by!
