I am a freelance artist and illustrator, and presently absorbed in digital painting, I love to cook and read cookbooks! In the meantime, I am working on my own personal website (be up soon thanks to hubby!) and writing a family cookbook on the side. My family and friends were always asking for my recipes and I would reply Oooops! I didn't write it down. I could remember ingredients but did not always measurements...my creative side interlaps into my cooking. So I vowed to start writing down the recipes, usually after I completed cooking and consuming the dish (Oooops! memory problem!) I take after my grandmother (and mother) who was a wonderful cook. She sewed without patterns, and cooked without recipes. She was a Chef supervisor for a small school district in West Texas for 40 years. Those children ate well, and they hated to see her retire.

I have learned to cook elegant dishes, or a simple family style meal, depending on the fluctuation of my budget! These days I have to stretch those pennies, not dollars, but pennies! However, we always manage to eat something tasty and enjoyable. There are millions of cookbooks on the market. It simply relates to your preferences and life style. I plan to incorporate in the book a section for "low budget" cooking. It is wonderful to have fresh ingredients, such as fresh herbs, to heighthen your tastebuds, but is not always affordable if you don't grow your own. I have managed to unvoluntarily "kill" most attempts at home grown veggies and herbs, with the exception of a few basil, thyme, and rosemary plants. But even they eventually hit the dust due to lack of root control management by the owner. Therefore, some times I have had to rely on what is left on my pantry shelve...it takes great imagination, i.e. even the top chefs have developed five star recipes with a only a bag full of alotted items. One of my favorite chefs, Jacques Pepin, can create a fabulous, but simple, dinner by just opening the refrigerator door, and a can of peaches! What talent!

I am excited about discovering Foodista ..only a few short days ago while surfing the net on another project. This website will have a myriad of information for free, as well as introducing us to international recipes from kitchens all over the world. A vessel to the inception of new tastes, ideas, and new friends to share experience and a wealth of cooking knowledge right from your own home!
