this is my own made from scratch apple pie that I have been making for many years when my children were little I used to make this for them and they love it I made up the name of this recipe myself because I am a grandma and I use granny smith apples so try this out and believe me your fam will love it

  • 4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening or butter(optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
  • 7 granny smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • finely chopped walnuts(optional)
  • whipped cream or ice cream(optional)

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Stir the flour and salt into a large bowl.

Cut the shortening into the flour mixture until the pieces are the size of small peas.

Combine the vinegar and water in a separate small bowl.

Sprinkle the liquid mixture into the flour 1 tablespoon at a time, until all the flour is moistened and dough almost cleans the side of bowl.

30 minutes

Gather the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.

Peel apples, cut out core, and chop coarsely.

Mix cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and sugar into chopped apples.

Remove dough from fridge. Divide dough in half and roll out on a lightly floured surface to form two 1/8 inch thick disks.

Carefully place dough into pie plate, patching any tears by pinching with water. Add fruit and cover with second disk of dough. Pinch edges together. For a decorative edge, use a fork to press dough together. Cut 3 or 4 slits in top of dough and place in preheated oven.

45 minutes

Cook for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling. For added flavor you can add finely chopped walnuts into the crust.

Wait for pie to cool before cutting. Serve hot or cold, with whipped cream or ice cream!
