The wedger/corer slices whole apples, pears and other fruit into segments while leaving the core separate. This tool is often very sharp.

We have one at home and I agree that it is very useful. We recently used ours to core and wedge out pineapple pieces. It worked well and was a lot easier to chop the wedges pieces into smaller bits.
