Do You Live in a Food Desert?

May 3, 2011

Thanks to Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign people are more aware than ever that access to healthy foods is critical for a community's health.

Poverty-stricken areas and neighborhoods without adequate access to affordable, healthy foods are called "food deserts" and a new online tool from the USDA is an easy resource to find out where the food deserts are located and how to provide these areas with more fresh food options.

According to SFGate.com, about 13.5 million Americans live in food deserts.
