Peach Barbecue Sauce

August 13, 2011

I was looking for interesting ways to use peaches when I stumbled upon this recipe for peach barbecue sauce from Piccante Dolce.  I tried it with some simply grilled chicken and let me tell you, it was so good.  Making your own barbecue sauce is so easy, I am kicking myself for not doing so before.  This sauce in particular has sweet and sour notes with a hint of fruitiness from the peach.  In my opinion, the peach flavor was not overpowering.  Next time, I'll try using peach puree instead of the jam. Use the last of the summer peaches to make this BBQ sauce.

Peach Barbecue Sauce
(recipe from Piccante Dolce)

Ingredients:
  • 2 cloves garlic - minced
  • 1 small onion - chopped
  • 1 cup peach jam - I used homemade Peach Basil, but any peach jam will do
  • 1/3 cup dark rum
  • 1/3 cup chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsps Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsps soy sauce
  • 2 tsps chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1-2 Tbsps olive oil
  • salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Heat oil in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Saute the onion and garlic until the onion is translucent and soft, being careful not to burn the garlic, about 5 minutes.2. Add in the remaining ingredients and simmer on low for 20 minutes. Using an immersion blender blend the sauce to your desired consistency. Brush on your favorite ribs or chicken.
