The Navajo Indians were very resourceful in providing for the tribe. Hunting on horseback they were able to obtain meat for eating as well as fur for clothing. The women and children were excellent gatherers of grasses which were used in weaving of needed items. Berries and other food items were also gathered for meals. The tribes also farmed during the spring for items such as corn which was honored in religious ceremonies getting them the nickname of "The Corn People."
