Former Pizza CEO Herman Cain Announces Presidential Run

May 23, 2011

Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, announced he will seek the GOP nomination for the presidency, May 21. Cain spoke before thousands of supporters during a rally at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park.

"We are going to take our country back," the 65-year-old talk show host told his supporters.

Considered by most political insiders to be a longshot to the nomination, Cain has certainly thrown some energy into what many consider a weak GOP field. He performed well at the first Republican presidential debate. Though he has never held political office before, Cain served as a senior economic advisor to the Bob Dole campaign in 1996. He has never held elected political office before.

Before taking over Godfather's Pizza and returning the chain to profitability, Cain worked as an executive with Coca-Cola, Pillsbury and Burger King. He served as CEO of the National Restaurant Association, and chaired the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

If elected,  Cain pledges energy independence, lower taxes, spending cuts and greater resources for fighting illegal immigration. Take a look at his campaign video.
