Sunday Baking: Monkey Bread

August 21, 2011

Monkey bread makes a regular appearance on my brunch table.  Balls of dough are rolled in cinnamon sugar and then baked with butter.  Monkey Bread is an easy baked treat that can put together quickly, especially if you have the pre-made biscuits in a tube.  This is the basic recipe but feel free to add nuts or other flavorings like rum or maple syrup.  Your family and friends will love pulling apart the dough and indulging in that sticky goodness.

Monkey Bread

Ingredients:
4 cans pre-made biscuits
3/4 cup butter
1 cup (packed) brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons cinnamon

Directions:
Grease a bunt, or tube pan and set aside

In a ziplock bag mix together the white sugar and cinnamon

Cut up the biscuits, and coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture

Layer the sugar coated biscuits in the pan

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees

Melt together the butter, and brown sugar

Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil

Boil the mixture for a few minutes, and once it is slightly darker remove from the heat and pour over the biscuits

Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown

Allow the monkey bread to cool for about 30 minutes before flipping out of the pan

Once it has cooled, remove from the pan and enjoy
