During pregnancy, it is best to be aware and avoid foods that are notorious listeria (a type of bacteria) carriers. Listeria has been found in deli meats and hot dogs, uncooked meats and vegetables, unpasteurized milk and milk products (raw milk, unpasteurized cheeses), honey, and even kitty litter (so don't change the litter box). Since contamination can occur before and after the cooking process in processed foods it is best to avoid these foods all together while pregnant.
