There are two types of white vinegar; one for cooking and one for not cooking. White vinegar for cooking is a clear type of vinegar made from oxidized distilled alcohol, such as vodka and gin. It has a sour taste and can be unpleasant to taste straight from the bottle. An example of white vinegar is Rice Vinegar, which is made from either sake or fermented white rice and is commonly used in Asian cuisine.

The non cooking type of white vinegar is made from combining acetic acid and water and should only be used as a cleaning or deodorizing product.
