Recipe: Peanut Butter and Jam Bars edit

cup Granulated sugar |

cup Packed brown sugar |

cup Unsalted butter |

teaspoon Baking powder |

Glaze |

tablespoons Unsalted butter |

cup Powdered sugar |

teaspoons Hot water - + or - |

Step 1 |
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. |
Step 2 |
Well blend sugars, butter, peanut butter and egg in a large mixing bowl. By hand stir in flour, baking soda and baking powder until well mixed. Set aside 1 cup of the dough. |
Step 3 |
Press remaining dough onto the bottom of an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Spread strawberry preserves over dough. |
Step 4 |
Crumble the reserved dough, them generously sprinkle over the layer of preserves. |
Step 5 |
Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown; cool completely. Drizzle with the glaze. Cut into 2 x 1 1/4-inch bars. |
Step 6 |
GLAZE: Melt margarine in a double boiler over low heat. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Add water, 1 tsp at a time, beating until smooth with a wish until thin enough to drizzle over the bars. |
