Corn Dog Batter

Ingredients

1 cup flour
1 tablespoon dry mustard
3/4 cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
1 cup milk
1 piece egg

Preparation

Heat about 2 inches of oil in pan suitable for deep-frying. Oil needs to be hot. Make batter by combining dry ingredients in mixing bowl, then cutting in shortening. Add milk and egg; stir to remove lumps.

Suggestion: Coat sausages first with cornstarch to make the batter stick well.
