Nutella, a chocolate-hazelnut spread, has captured the hearts of Americans. Dare I say that it holds a place in the pantry next to our beloved peanut butter. Nutella was first developed in Italy by pastry chef Pietro Ferrero in the 1940's. There was a shortage on chocolate products due to World War II so Mr. Ferrero decided to supplement his product with hazelnuts as a way to ration his chocolate supply.
