For goodness sakes, let's all chill, and think about our food with a calm head. Here are 5 things about food that need to be said out loud. Served to you with a hefty side of Snark. You're Welcome!
Food should not come in a box
The further from whole food that an item becomes, the more expensive it is. Cut your own apples. Shred your own lettuce. For goodness sakes, do not buy your dinner in a box. Email me, I will show you how to make it yourself.
You can buy what food you want. The food industry does not control your diet
Even if the cheetah is bright orange and all the kids are singing when they drink the beverage, you do not need to fall for the sales pitch. The healthiest foods have no commercials.
Your children will drink water and eat whole grain bread
Despite what they tell you, your children will drink water when they become thirsty. No matter what the dairy industry leads you to believe, milk doesn't do a body THAT much good. If you serve whole grain bread (with the crust on by golly) your family will soon eat the bread.
Dinner is not hard. If you have time to check your email, you have time to make something
Why do we feel that dinner has to be an all or nothing affair? Just provide something. Have simple choices for meals, like oatmeal with fruit, salads, brown rice with veg, a sandwich and some conversation.
Food is always less expensive when you have a plan
Do not go into the store and simply buy things. Know the meals you will need to make before you set foot in the store. Have a plan and stick to it. Bring a calculator. That is all.

LOVE THIS! So true. You know why people eat what comes out of a box? LAZINESS.

Preach on, Amy! When I was growing up, I didn't just eat the meal Mom and Dad put on the table, I also helped them prepare it and shop for it. A little independence -- from food marketing, from commercials that tell us we must dine at a restaurant or fast-food joint, from it all -- goes a long way.

Well said, Amy! Guess my ideas aren't so old-fashioned after all. Best point is thinking a meal has to be either an "all or nothing affair." Simple goes a long way and anything that does not come out of a box is always better tasting, healthier and much cheaper than what does. Great post!
FYI: My husband had to work out of town for a year when the company he worked for went bankrupt. In less than 1 year of eating prepared (dry or frozen) meals from the grocery store (seldom eating out) he gained 20 pounds. He has since taken it off but it's taken another year of consistently cooking at home.
