August 24, 2012
Celebrate National Banana Split Day with this recipe for grilled banana splits.   Bananas are sliced lengthwise, brushed with butter and put on the grill.  The surface begins to caramelize and the fruit develops a greater depth of flavor.  Top your bananas with your favorite ice cream, whipped cream, and of course, a maraschino cherry. Your favorite dessert just got better!
1 large banana, not over ripe
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Optional Toppings:
Preheat grill over medium-high flame.
Cut banana in half, lengthwise. Brush cut sides with melted butter and place, cut side down, on the grill.
Grill bananas 2-4 minutes or until tender, but not burnt.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate sauce and your choice of toppings!
