Fall Inspired Pumpkin Spice Latte

September 14, 2012

Warm up this fall with a homemade pumpkin spice latte.  There is no need to spend $4 at your local coffee shop for a fancy cup of Joe.  In addition to pumpkin pie spice and syrup, this recipe uses real pumpkin.  Once you take a sip, you'll want to drink your pumpkin spice latte at home instead of on the go.

Spiced Pumpkin Latte

1/4 cup (1-2 shots) espresso or ½ cup strong brewed coffee
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon canned pumpkin
Whipped cream (optional)
Without an espresso machine: In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir pumpkin puree into milk. Add the syrup. Heat until steaming, stirring constantly. Do not burn.
Transfer milk mixture to a blender and whip for 20 seconds, until foaming. Pour into a tall mug and pour coffee over the top. Top with Whipped cream (optional) and dust with ground pumpkin pie spice or nutmeg.
With an espresso machine: Pour syrup into a medium mug and pull the shots. Steam the milk. Add shots to syrup, and then add the steamed milk. Top with Whipped cream (optional) and dust with nutmeg.
