The bread machine is one of the most loved kitchen appliances that I own. Of course I make my own bread by hand, and no matter what, always will. But making it by hand is reserved for making 6 loaves at a time (at least until they invent a bread machine that can handle it). My bread machine gets quite a workout, and I can have the perfect dough kneading and rising while I do other things.
A bread maker is quiet, can be timed to prepare a fresh loaf or dough for exactly when you need it, and with only one moving part, lasts forever. It's truly a unique and under appreciated workhorse in the kitchen.
January is National Bread Machine month, and it's your chance to pull out that dusty appliance you have sitting under your counter, and get baking. Here are some unconventional breads to get started with. Once you see how fast and easy it is to get the perfect loaf, you will see why every kitchen needs it's own bread machine.
