To make your own buttermilk:
4 1/2 TSP WHITE VINEGAR OR FRESH LEMON JUICE 1 CUP MILK
PLACE THE VINEGAR OR LEMON JUICE IN A GLASS MEASURING CUP. ADD MILK TO EQUAL 1 CUP TOTAL LIQUID. STIR. LET STAND 15-20 MINUTES. USE AS NEEDED OR REFRIGERATE UNTIL NEEDED.

Mix and let it stand for 5 minutes. ^^
Buttermilk If you add vinegar or lemon juice to milk, it will curdle.
