Bagels are not something you just buy at the bakery, you can actually make them at home. An intersting fact about bagels is that they are boiled before they are baked. This helps them develop and keep their shape in the oven. My favorite way to eat bagels is with cream cheese, cucumbers, and smoked salmon but you can can top them with whatever you like.
1 cup warm water
1/4 ounce active dry yeast (1/4 oz package envelope)
1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vegetable oil, divided
1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
1 egg yolk, Beaten
toasted chopped onion
poppy seed
sesame seed
kosher salt
garlic powder
