Stephen Crout

I am a 64 year old retired opera and ballet conductor who now day-trades stocks. I am a self-taught cook and developed recipes for myself while traveling in the music profession and wanting not to eat in restaurants constantly. I cook for two, and like nothing better than to find a slightly different way to put together someone else’s recipe or a recipe I’ve previously made that I consider my own.

Nearly every day I write a recipe for dinner, make it as original as I can. I print it, shop for ingredients, get my prep done early, and serve it promptly at 6 pm. I believe in being inventive, creative, and versatile.

I live in Denver with my partner of 28 years, Peter, and our 2 King Charles Spaniels.

From March 25, 2007 until the same date in 2008 I compiled a book-length manuscript (which, alas, resides on my hard drive) detailing every morsel of food that passed my lips, whether prepared at home or consumed at a restaurant, gala dinner, or in the home of friends. This project so focused my attention on food prep that it forever altered my ability to think on my feet in the kitchen.

I am an obsessive watcher of Food Network.
