I like un-pretentious food. I despise "foo-foo" food and "foo-foo" foodies. Make my food straight forward and cheap. That's why I'm the Cheap Bastid. My style of cooking is more country/southern than anything else and I have an equal passion for being able to cook really tasty food on a really tight budget.
With all the people in economic distress in our nation and with record numbers of people on food stamps (SNAP), I like to show how you can feed a family just as cheaply as possible and yet still eat well.
It's all about being creative and being simple and taking the time to cook rather than go after carry-out or the drive thru lane or buying prepared foods. It requires just a little bit of planning which I learned to do long ago when my children were little and I was charged with feeding them each night. Menus were planned and inventory was taken before going to the grocery store.
