Nutmeg was not made by anyone, it grows naturally. Nutmeg is several species of trees in genus Myristica. The most important commercial species is Myristica fragrans, an evergreen tree indigenous to the Banda Islands in the Moluccas of Indonesia, or Spice Islands. The nutmeg tree is important for two spices derived from the fruit, nutmeg and mace.

In sufficiently large quantities (much more than typically used in cooking), nutmeg will have deliriant effects with an onset of several hours and effects for up to three days, but carries side effects including dizziness, flushes, dry mouth, accelerated heartbeat, temporary constipation, difficulty in urination, nausea, and panic. Additionally, there is some amount of risk entailed, as ingesting too much nutmeg can cause an acute toxic psychosis that may require hospitalization.
