About

It's no coincidence that this salad seems like a jumble of leftovers: legend has it that Robert Cobb, owner of Hollywood's Brown Derby restaurant, combined whatever ingredients were in his walk-in late one evening after the rest of the staff had gone home. He liked the salad so much that he named it after himself and put it on the menu. (From "Rare Bits: Unusual Origins of Popular Recipes" by Patricia Bunning Stevens)
