Tantalizing Turmeric Sorbet

June 7, 2011

When the mercury rises, people tend to reach for cold treats like ice-cream and sorbet. Although refreshing, many of these creamy concoctions are loaded with sugar. Here is an antioxidant-rich sorbet that will refresh and nourish you during the summer heat.

Turmeric Sorbet

2 cup filtered water
1/4 cup fresh turmeric, peeled and roughly diced
10 cardamom pods, seeds removed
2 sticks cinnamon
1 tbsp rose buds
2-3 tsp raw honey
2 tsp lemon juice

Where do you get rosebuds? They're not going to come out of my yard! Also, is there something to look for when shopping for cardamom/cardamon pods?

Thanks,

Pat

Interesting that you mention sugar in other sorbets and still add carbohydrates in the form of honey. Whilst I agree there isn't very much it is still there.

Honey is a far superior sweetener compared to refined sugars, more alkalinising, more nutritious, slower energy release and packed with health benefits, especially when raw. Carbohydrates are our friends in the right balance, vital for energy production and an essential part of a healthy balanced diet.
This recipe looks divine, will be trying it out at the weekend! Thanks for sharing :)

I mentioned that other recipes are loaded with sugar, this one is not. There is a little, but it hardly could be considered a lot. Moderation is the key to balance.
