Question: What is molasses made from?

December 31, 2010
The ingredients on the bottle say molasses. I want to know where it comes from and/or how it is made.

Molasses is a byproduct of the process of refining sugar cane into sugar.
When sugar cane is processed into sugar, the sugar cane is pressed to extract all of the sugar-juice from the plants and this syrup is boiled to promote the formation of sugar crystals. There are three types of molasses – light, dark and blackstrap – and the boiled liquid from the first press of sugar cane is light molasses. It is sweeter and less dark in color than the other two. Dark molasses is formed when the boiled sugar cane juice is boiled again.

I agree with Chris. It also comes from sugar beets as well as cane.

Molases is a Jamaican speciality. Im uncertain about the exact process but i also know that molases conatins rum as both molases and rum are made form the sugar cane, and here in Jamaica we use it to bake cakes or puddings. It gives the cake a special and natural colour and also adds a spicy flavour and scent, giving you the best tasting cakes.

However if too much of this is consumed it will get you drunk!!!!.

Go ahaead and feel free to use this wonderful product!!......
