Old Fashioned Pecan Cake

Ingredients

1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans
2 1/8 cups cake flour
3/4 cup milk
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon caramel syrup
5 tablespoons or more of water
1 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

Cream well shortening, white and brown sugar. Beat in 2 eggs. Sift cake flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk. Add vanilla. Fold in chopped pecans. Pour batter into 2 (8 inch) pans. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Top with frosting.

Beat all ingredients with mixer. Put chopped pecans between layers of cake and on top.
