Chocolate-Cherry Brownies

Ingredients

cup butter or margarine, cut up
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares, coarsely chopped
4 lrgs eggs
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
teaspoon salt
cup hazelnuts, toasted, skinned and chopped
cup dried cherries, chopped

Preparation

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9-inch baking pan.

Combine butter and chocolate in microwaveproof bowl. Microwave on Medium2 to 2 1/2 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes, until melted. Cool.

Beat eggs and sugar in large mixer bowl at medium-high speed until light and ribbon forms when beaters are lifted, 5 to 8 minutes. Beat in vanilla.

At low speed, beat in chocolate mixture. Stir in flour and salt until blended. Stir in nuts and cherries. Spoon into prepared pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

Bake 30 to 33 minutes, until barely set in center. Cool. Cut into 2 1/4x2-inch bars.

Makes 2 dozen.

Brownies will never be the same! Dried cherries add such irresistible flavor that once you taste the difference, plain chocolate just won't do.
